Crowdfunding to create a ‘Safe Talk’ Space

26th August 2025

Who are we, and what is our project about?

Bicester Foodbank is a local charity based in Bicester, belonging to Bicester Christian Action, dedicated to supporting people facing food insecurity in the community.  We aim to support those in crisis with emergency food parcels and practical solutions.

A private room in a foodbank can significantly support people in improving their financial wellbeing by creating a safe, confidential space where sensitive conversations can take place without fear of judgement or embarrassment. Many people who turn to foodbanks are facing complex challenges such as debt, benefit issues, housing problems, or unemployment that require personalised advice or emotional support.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We currently run the foodbank from a business unit which is open plan.  There is no safe, private area to take clients for private conversations.  When a user comes to the food bank, there is a root cause which is typically financial.  We can offer support in this area, provided we can ask for personal details to submit a referral to a financial support charity.  Early intervention prevents people from spiralling further into crisis.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Erect a new stud wall to separate private consultation and add a panel glazed doorway and decorative finishes.

How you can help

There are two simple ways to get involved and support our project:

1. Make a donation

Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too.

2. Spread the word

Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed.
